Program Description:

The 2013 Missouri Coalition of Community Mental Health Centers & Psychiatric Rehab Conference promises to be an inspiring and transformational training event. We will share a look back at the past 50 years since the passage of the federal Community Mental Health Act, and we will be challenged to envision the future of behavioral healthcare in Missouri and across the nation. Friends from the past will be in attendance (Dr. Paul Ahr, Kathy Carter, Shirley Fearon). And while we celebrate a few of the legends in the development of Missouri’s nationally recognized mental health system, we also have the opportunity to explore exciting new ideas and opportunities.

We are honored by the presence of Joan Kenerson King, representing National Council – the first nurse hired by National Council and representative of the importance of integrated care in the future of behavioral health. Joel Corcoran, the executive director of Clubhouse International, will be presenting at the conference after coming across town from the 17th Clubhouse International Seminar hosted by our friends at Independence Center. David Covington is presenting in several important areas, and we are lucky to have him! Dr. Parks and Rachelle Glavin have organized a one-day HCH Physician Institute on Friday that will continue our efforts to integrate care and improve health outcomes for those we serve. Plus, you will see many other policy experts, both familiar and new, bringing their expertise to both challenge and educate.

The Coalition and the Psych Rehab Council are genuinely excited to join forces to present this exciting training opportunity!

Who Should Attend?
Anyone connected to the fields of mental health and substance abuse treatment and services should consider attending this conference. For Coalition provider members, this is an exciting opportunity for provider executive teams to attend and spend some time Thursday night together at any of the surrounding restaurants to build team and organizational vision. Representation from all organizational levels should consider attending – individuals identified for the Physician Institute (primary care consultants, psychiatrists, nurse care managers), executive, fiscal and clinical team members, new community liaison positions, and staff identified for future leadership potential. In addition, this conference provides an affordable learning opportunity for non-Coalition providers – FQHCs, hospitals, law enforcement, court systems, advocacy groups, and many others. For the price of this conference ($100 one-day; $125 two-day), this event is a relatively inexpensive way to gain valuable knowledge and continuing education credits!
