Program Description:

In order to provide the most appropriate and effective treatment for consumers, it is critical that mental health practitioners possess a comprehensive understanding of professional ethics. Unfortunately, the principles that guide ethical decision making are rarely black and white.
Some of the most common ethical dilemmas that practitioners face are those involving issues of confidentiality and dual relationships. In this workshop, Peggy Keilholz, MSW, will help to clear up some of the confusion surrounding these issues by explaining the difference between client privilege and clinician confidentiality and instructing participants on how to apply ethical reasoning to dilemmas involving dual relationships. Ms. Keilholz will also discuss the specific codes of ethics for various mental health professional organizations, including NASW, ACA, APA, and substance abuse counselors.

Program Presenter:

Peggy J. Keilholz, MSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). From 2005-2007 she served as the Ethics Chair for the Missouri Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. During 27 years in practice Peggy has worked with numerous individuals and families coping with alcoholism and drug addiction and chronic mental and physical conditions. She has presented numerous workshops on social work ethics. Peggy received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Fontbonne College, a Master of Arts in Religion and Education from St. Louis University, and the Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis.
